Governor Mikie Sherrill orders flags to half-staff for September 11 victims

Governor Mikie Sherrill orders U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, September 11, 2026, in remembrance of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Executive Order No. 23 marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks and honors the approximately 750 New Jerseyans who were among those killed, along with the families who continue to carry that loss.

The order also recognizes the thousands of first responders and other New Jerseyans who answered the call to help save lives and recover the dead in the aftermath. It acknowledges that many later developed health complications or died as a result of rescue and recovery efforts.

Flags are to remain at half-staff statewide on that date, and the order takes effect immediately. The directive applies across New Jersey for the full day of Friday, September 11, 2026.
