Governor Kay Ivey orders flags to half-staff for Patriot Day

Governor Kay Ivey orders flags throughout Alabama to be lowered to half-staff on Patriot Day, Friday, September 11, 2026, in honor of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. The directive recognizes the victims at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard the hijacked flights, as well as the first responders and others who died that day.

The order applies statewide across Alabama. Flags are to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, September 11, 2026.

The memorial follows the federal designation of September 11 as Patriot Day and reflects the state’s observance of the 25th anniversary of the attacks. The order also notes that Alabamians were among the victims, including residents of Huntsville, Birmingham, Mountain Brook, Jacksonville, Alexander City, Hurtsboro, Montgomery, Brewton, Prichard, and Mobile.
