Governor Maura Healey orders flags to half-staff for Patriot Day

Governor Maura Healey has ordered the United States of America flag and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts flag to be lowered to half-staff on Friday, September 11, 2026, in observance of Patriot Day. The order honors the individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and the Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the wars that followed.

The flags are to remain at half-staff from sunrise until sunset. The directive applies throughout Massachusetts at all state buildings, including the main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, such as town and city halls, other state-owned or state-controlled buildings, and all state military installations.

The order is issued in accordance with United States Public Law 107-89 and the Commonwealth’s flag protocol. It covers the full jurisdiction rather than a narrower set of counties, cities, or facilities.
