Governor Stein orders flags to half-staff for Patriot Day

Governor Josh Stein orders all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to remain at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, September 11, in honor of Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance. The observance marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and remembers the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost in the attacks, along with the first responders whose heroic efforts cost many of them their lives.

The order applies to state facilities across North Carolina. Flags are to be lowered for the full daylight period on September 11, beginning at sunrise and returning to full staff at sunset.

The remembrance also honors the passengers of Flight 93, firefighters who rushed toward danger, and neighbors who helped others through the tragedy. It serves as a call to remember the shared sacrifice and resilience that followed one of the deadliest attacks on U.S. soil.
