Governor Gretchen Whitmer orders flags to half-staff for Patrick Trout

Governor Gretchen Whitmer ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Detroit Fire Fighter Patrick Trout, who passed away in the line of duty.

The order applies within the State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the state of Michigan.

The source directs that flags be lowered on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, and returned to full-staff on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

The release says Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments, and other organizations are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff. It also includes standard flag-lowering instructions for raising the flag to the peak before lowering it to half-staff and returning it to full-staff before the flag is lowered for the day.
