Governor Josh Stein orders flags to half-staff for Gloria Steinem

Governor Josh Stein orders U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff in honor of Gloria Steinem, the American journalist and social movement activist who helped shape modern women’s rights advocacy. Steinem died at her home in New York City at age 92. Born in Toledo, Ohio, she became a nationally recognized leader for women’s rights and co-founded Ms. magazine, the National Women’s Political Caucus, and Women’s Action Alliance. She also helped establish Take Our Daughters to Work Day.

The flags are to be lowered from sunrise on September 6, 2026, through sunset on September 10, 2026. The order applies to state facilities in North Carolina.
