Governor Whitmer orders flags to half-staff to honor Dolly Parton

Governor Gretchen Whitmer ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff to honor and remember Dolly Parton.

The order states that flags are to be lowered at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. It also says the State of Michigan remembers Dolly Parton by lowering flags to half-staff.

The notice applies within the State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the State of Michigan. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments, and other organizations are also encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.

The source says flags should be returned to full staff at sunset on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. It also notes that the order was issued in accordance with an order from President Donald Trump.
