Governor Newsom orders flags to half-staff for Patriot Day

Governor Gavin Newsom orders flags on state buildings to fly at half-staff on September 11, 2026, in solemn remembrance of the victims of the September 11 attacks and in honor of their families, first responders, and the civilian and uniformed heroes who acted with courage that day.

The proclamation marks September 11, 2026, as Patriot Day in California and reflects on the loss of 3,000 innocent lives, including 36 Californians, in the attacks on New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. It also recognizes the selflessness and humanity shown by Americans in the face of fear, uncertainty, debris, and devastation.

The order applies to all state buildings in California and takes effect on September 11, 2026. Flags are to remain at half-staff for that day.
